The night before our daughter launched her high school career, we celebrated the milestone with a family dinner. Dakota, my five-year-old Shepherd-mix dog, sat beside our dining table, drooling over the smell of chicken. My husband leaned over and brushed some plant debris from Dakota’s head, and a piece flipped into the dog’s eye.
A couple of blinks later, Dakota seemed fine and resumed begging for chicken. I did not see anything in Dakota’s eye, and he was not squinting or rubbing his eye. So, I laughed and said, “Let’s keep an eye on it!”
